Steps to migrate to WisDOT Civil 3D 2026

Internal users

Civil 3D install and initialize process (WisDOT only)

WisDOT only: Instructions will be e-mailed out to existing Civil 3D users on migration steps and timeline.

External users

After Civil 3D 2026 has been installed, configured, and initialized (opened once), please follow all steps at Update WisDOT Civil 3D desktop application to make the WisDOT customization package available in the Updater app and install it for users.

There are many user settings, folders, and files that a user can choose to use associated with the WisDOT customization package. A Migrate User Settings command has been built to simplify the migration of these settings from one version of Civil 3D to another.

It can only be run from the commandline.

Overview

This tool assists users with their transition from the previous WisDOT Civil 3D production version.

Example: Civil 3D 2024 transition to Civil 3D 2026

The tool migrates the following:

• Command line registry
• Drawing window registry
• Toolbars registry
• My places registry
• Select user system variables (WisDOT devices only)
• Contents of C:\WisDOT\Stnd\users\Myc3d20XX
  • Palettes
  • Action macro recordings
  • Assembly files
  • Block files
  • Publish Collections

Usage

Migrate User Settings is accessed only by the command line: DOTMigrateUserSettings.

1. At the command line, select one of the following options:
   1. Command line migrates the previous version Command Line Windows registry to the current version.
   2. Drawing window migrates the previous version Drawing Window registry to the current version.
   3. Toolbars migrates the previous version Toolbars registry to the current version.
   4. Places migrates the previous version Dialogs\AllAnavDialogs registry to the current version.
   5. Variables applies the last saved user system variable settings from the previous version. This option is only applicable to WisDOT devices running a WisDOT profile.
   6. Myc3d copies all files under C:\WisDOT\Stnd\users\Myc3d previous version to C:\WisDOT\Stnd\users\Myc3d current version
      1. Updates all Publish collections Publish.scr, Publish.bat, and BatchPublish.dll files to the current version.

      2. In all palette ATC files, replaces all "C:\WisDOT\Stnd\users\Myc3d20 previous version with C:\WisDOT\Stnd\users\Myc3d current version.

   7. All migrates all items to the current version.

Warning: If a scheduled task was set up to run the Publish.bat, be sure to update the task for the new Publish Collection path.

If a Civil 3D project and it's DWGs are newer than 2016, there are only a few steps to consider.

1. Most DWGs will work normally by opening and saving them in Civil 3D 2026. This can be done as file edits occur. Doing a batch save of all project DWGs to Civil 3D 2026 may result in quicker open times and better synchronization between DWGs.
2. Methods encourages remapping the reference template paths to stay current with latest updates to styles. Reference templates are where Civil 3D styles are managed and updated and are version-specific to Civil 3D.

   1. This can be done manually for a DWG using Manage tab > Styles panel > Reference and pointing the references to the current version of WisDOT Civil 3D. References to ref-dwg-settings.dwt and ref-ex-dwg-settings.dwt need to be deleted. They are no longer used in the WisDOT configuration. Check the Load column and Apply then OK.

      

   2. This can also be done for an entire Civil 3D project with Project - Sync Project Files using an input csv file of the project DWGs and the option to Sync with WisDOT Reference Template. Please see tool documentation for full instructions.

If a Civil 3D project and it's DWGs are 2016 or older, there are many steps to completely and correctly migrate it to Civil 3D 2026. It is likely best to be selective in what DWGs to migrate or import data into current version files.
