WisDOT layer states
Last updated: 2021-11-05
Overview
The WisDOT Civil 3D standards require custom AutoCAD layer states. WisDOT custom page setups reside in layer states files and layer states drawings that are included in the WisDOT Civil 3D resource files.
Warning: Altering WisDOT component files and directories may result in lost functionality. Contact CAE Support for more information.
User component files can be created and stored in C:\WisDOT\Stnd\users\Myc3d20xx\
New custom layer state requests can be directed to the WisDOT Civil 3D Futures Trello board for review and consideration.
Resource files
Layer states files
The WisDOT custom layer states are stored in .LAS and .DWG files. The files are located in: C:\WisDOT\Stnd\C3D20xx\Components\Layers\LayerStates
- Import All WisDOT Layer States.dwgis a drawing containing WisDOT custom layer states used for design and plan production.
- WisDOT All Layers (inverse grayscale).las, WisDOT All Layers (default).las, WisDOT All Layers (darker gray).las, WisDOT All Layers (black).las, WisDOT Ex. Utility Layers (black).las, WisDOT Utility Layers (color).las, WisDOT Ex. Surface Layers (frozen).las, and WisDOT Ex. Map Layers (frozen).las are the individual layer state files comprising the layer states in Import All WisDOT Layer States.dwg
- Import All County Maps Layer States.dwg is a drawing containing WisDOT custom layer states used for county maps.
- WisDOT County Maps (black & white plot).las, WisDOT County Maps (grayscale plot).las, and WisDOT County Maps (color plot).las are the individual layer state files comprising the layer states in Import All County Maps Layer States.dwg
Layer states
There are two sets of layer states. One set is for design and plan production, and one set is for county maps.
Design and plan production layer states
Layer state name | Description |
---|---|
WisDOT All Layers (black) |
Set all standard layers to plot black (no grayscale) |
WisDOT All Layers (darker gray) |
Use to plot all grays darker |
WisDOT All Layers (default) |
Set all standard layers to default settings (grayscale) |
WisDOT All Layers (inverse grayscale) |
Set all standard layers to plot inverse grayscale (Proposed objects plot gray, existing objects plot black) |
WisDOT Ex. Map Layers (frozen) |
Freeze all existing mapping layers (E_MAP_*) |
WisDOT Ex. Surface Layers (frozen) |
Freeze all existing surface layers (E_DTM_* and E_SURF_*) |
WisDOT Ex. Utility Layers (black) |
Set existing utility layers to plot black (other layers plot grayscale) |
WisDOT Utility Layers (color) | Set standard utility layers to plot color (other layers plot grayscale) |
County maps layer states
Layer state name | Description |
---|---|
Wisdot County Maps (black & white plot) |
Set all county map layers to plot black and white |
Wisdot County Maps (color plot) |
Set all county map layers to plot in color |
Wisdot County Maps (grayscale plot) |

Using layer states files
The available layer states files in an active DWG can be found at:
- Ribbon > Home tab > Layers panel dropdown > Layer State picker
-
Ribbon > WisDOT Sheets tab > Plot Configuration panel > Layer State picker
WisDOT custom layer states can be added to a drawing individually from the Layer States palette.
Layer states in a drawing can be selected, applied, and managed from the Layer States pull-down.
The WisDOT custom layer states are part 3 of the WisDOT four-part plot standard.
