Issue: Publish Collections Manager: Unable to Publish DSD files with same name

If a Publish Collection contains multiple DSD files with the same name, only the first one will be processed.

Solution:

The Publish Collections Manager creates temporary SCR files in the %Temp% directory with the same name as the DSD file. When multiple DSD files are named the same, there is a name conflict for the temporary SCR files. The BatchPublish.dll has been revised to create unique SCR names in the %Temp% directory. Users should update existing Publish Collections by replacing the BatchPublish.dll with the updated one. This can be done manually, or by opening the Publish Collections Manager. Opening the Publish Collections Manger automatically updates the BatchPublish.dll in all Publish Collections.

Issue: Description keys contain incorrect style assignment

Point description key assignments were updated in February 2024. TEMP* was originally assigned the point style E MARK Temp Shot, but was changed to E MARK Temporary Control Point.

Solution:

Update description keys, CSV, and templates to reflect the correct style assignment.

Issue: Earthwork Detail Report cell errors

Some cells in Excel will show #VALUE! error. This is caused by either a reference cell with a value shown as a scientific notation string or a reference cell that is not in number format.

Solution:

Update report so all values are transferred to Excel without scientific notation. Update report to make sure all cells are set to number format.

Imagery Service coordinate system is not se to WISCRS. It is set to State Plane. Adjust WisDOT Imagery add-in settings to match the imagery service coordinate system.

Issue: Create Verification Surface: Vol surface style

The “Elevation” style has been replaced with “P Analysis-Elevations”. The Create Verification Surface tool tries to assign the “Elevation” style to the volume surface, but it no longer exists.

Solution:

Update the Create Verification Surface tool to use the “P Analysis-Elevations” surface style if available.

Issue: Create Verification Surface command resilience

If the Create Verification Surface tool encounters an error with the given data, it does not complete any operations and it is difficult to determine what portion of the data caused the error.

Solution:

Tool modified to complete whatever operations are possible, given the data’s current integrity. This will result in a partially completed DWG file that will help the user in identifying the erroneous data.

Custom named user coordinate systems are sometimes removed when the purge non-structures styles tool is used.

Issue: Slope Stake Report access violation error

In some situations, the Slope Stake Report results in a fatal error indicating an access violation and Civil 3D crashes.

Solution:

Error would commonly occur when querying a sample line section, but the section had no data at that location. Scenario has been isolated so the error does not occur.

Issue: Add Corridor Entity as break line improvements

When the corridor entity is at the edge of a surface, a ‘Point not on Entity’ error is sometimes presented.

Some users are applying this tool to corridor surfaces instead of refinement surfaces.

Solution:

Add a tolerance to account for entities near the edge of a surface. For example, if a link end is at the edge of the surface, use the nearest TIN point instead of the link end point.

Prevent using this tool on corridor surfaces.

Issue: WisDOT Subassemblies help access

Subassembly Help option on the palettes does not connect to the WisDOT subassembly help pages on the KB or to a chm file that has links to the KB.

Solution:

Issue: WisDOT ‘draw’ tools: Alignment and Polyline support

WisDOT drafting tools found on the WisDOT Design tab → Draw panel only work with arcs and lines. Sometimes users need to draw lines and arcs tangent to alignments and polylines.

Solution:

Support added to draw tangential lines and arcs from existing alignment and polyline sub-entities.

Issue: Google Street View access

Google Street View is used often to see ground-level photography along roadway projects. More efficient access to these images is desirable.

Solution:

Provide a button on the WisDOT Image tab to access Google Street View by clicking a point and view direction along on a roadway.

Issue: Publish Collections Manager Asynchronous DSD processing

AcCoreConsole crashes unexpectedly when publishing large numbers of sheets (1000s).

Solution:

Publish Collections Manager enhanced to process DSD files asynchronously by creating a new AcCoreConsole session for each DSD file. This all results in a significant performance improvement for Publish Collections with multiple DSD files.

The codes set styles, Color by Link - Point and Link Codes and the Color by Materials - Point and Link Codes point and link labels only have the text set as non-annotative, while the text gaps from objects and line lengths adjust to annotative changes.

Issue: Connect Apron to Pipe

Often culverts get updated and the endwalls take effort to snap and rotate to match.

Solution:

New command created to reconnect AEW structures to pipe at the pipe location. Command is DOTConnectApronToPipe. Is also found on the WisDOT Design tab -> Design Panel -> Pipe Network menu, or the Structure right-click menu.

Issue: "Typ Sec Slope Percent" Label corrections

The General > Label Style > Line > Typ Sec Slope Percent needs work. The arrow doesn’t point downhill. The arrow goes through the text. Only works on the segment option.

Solution:

The values and expressions have been updated for the Typ Sec Slope Percent label and the name has been changed to Slope Percent. Additional label styles for slope Ft-Ft and slope ratio have been added as a child to the Slope Percent label. Also, a set of labels for a 2x vertical exaggeration has been added.

Issue: Move Pipe End enhancement

If an apron endwall is connected to a pipe, it is disconnected when using the Move Pipe End command on that end of the pipe. If the opposite side of the pipe has an apron end wall, its rotation is no longer correct when using the Move Pipe End command to move the pipe horizonally.

Solution:

Enhance the Move Pipe End command to detect if Inlet/Outlet structures are connected to the pipe. If they are, assure they are connected and rotated correctly after moving the pipe end.

Solution:

Create Expression Report that lists all of the style expression and what they are. DOTReportExpressions is the new command. An Excel document is created in the same directory as the dwg/dwt.

Issue: Process to add point codes to code set style

Best practice is to include unique point codes for various locations in a corridor assembly. Since every project is different unique codes for all possible scenarios cannot be prepackaged.

Solution:

WisDOT provides code set styles with a base/template list of point codes. These codes can be used and appended with a suffix to create unique point codes when building assemblies. A new command, DOTAddPointCodesToCodeSet, is provided to add the unique point codes to the currently assigned code set style or create a new code set style based on the current one. The style assignments from the base code are assigned to the newly add unique codes. Command also found on WiDOT Design tab ->Design panel → Corridor menu.

Issue: C3D 2024 does not automatically update View Frame template source

When sheet drawings are opened in C3D 2024 that were previously in an earlier version of C3D (2020 & 2022), the view frame template source is not updated to the C3D 2024 version. If the template from the previous version of C3D is not available, and error occurs.

Issue: Inconsistent Block Scale

Some blocks are set to a default scale that is inconsistent to similar blocks on other palettes. Other blocks are not scaled consistently and have no notice to drafters.

Solution

  • Set all blocks to insert at a default scale of 1.0
  • Removed auto-explode on bar bend diagrams to allow easier scaling
  • Added attributes and visibility states to all BAR_BEND blocks to allow common details to be edited without exploding the block. This allows the blocks to be used with different scales.

There is no way to access the reference templates paths using the Civil 3D API. However, mouse actions and keystrokes can be simulated using the Window UI Automation API. A reference template find/replace/remove function has been added to the Sync Project Files tool to update reference template paths for the given list of drawings.

Need a way to give users a simple mechanism to access the latest aerial imagery available.

Solution:

New contextual ribbon tab “WisDOT Imagery” is visible when a coordinate system is assigned to the dwg. The tab contains options to display topographic or county-specific aerial imagery, depending on the assigned coordinate system. Options to stylize the imagery with brightness, contrast, opacity, and color controls are provided. Imagery can be captured to a reference local image file of a specific area.

Issue: Remove Orphaned Image Files

With the introduction of “WisDOT Imagery”, it is more likely that projects could accumulate many unreferenced image files. A tool is needed to scan project directories to find any image files that are not being referenced into project dwg file.

Solution:

New command DOTRemoveOrphanedImages prompts user to select a project directory to scan. The tool looks for all image files (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, TIF, SID) in the selected directory and subdirectories. Then it opens each dwg database in the same directories and checks if any of the found images have been referenced. It first checks if images were referenced as an “XRef” (MAPIINSERT). Then it determines if there are any FDO Raster connections. Drawings with FDO Raster connections are opened at the end to determine if those connections are to any of the found image files.

Once a list of orphaned images is developed, the user is presented with a list of the images. The user can select which images to delete from the project directory.

The command is located in the Manage panel - Project menu.

Issue: Model Display Options

Users have different color preferences when viewing certain entities in Model space. However, these entities need to plot according to WisDOT standards. Need a way to override the color display of the certain entities (Profile View grid, Section View grid, Surface contours) in Model space while keeping the colors set to the WisDOT standards for paper space (plotting). Users should not be modifying the CTB according to their personal preferences because the CTB controls plotting and the CTB needs to be the same on all devices.

Solution:

The Model Display Options tool has been added to the Manage panel on each WisDOT ribbon tab. Users can use this to set their Model Space color preferences for Profile View grids, Section View Grids, and Surface Contours. These preferences can be set globally across of these object types, or users can set use the provided layer filter option to specify which entities should be affected.

Issue: Point Station Offset to UDP not updating points located at curve ends

C3D API defect related to tolerances. In some cases, if an alignment curve type is “fixed” there may be an extremely small tangency violation at the curve end that is not reported in the alignment geometry table. However, the violation is still detectable by the API and the station/offset location is reported as “out of range”. The tool therefore does not compute the sta/os at that location.

Solution:

Compute the station/offset whenever possible regardless an “out of range” return from the API. If truly out of range (beyond alignment ends), the UDP for alignment description will indicate “OutOfRange”.

Issue: Modify length, area, and 3d area reports to be able to send multiple selections to the same xlsx file

Users requested that these tools be modified to allow for multiple selection sets to be sent to the same xlsx file. They can go to different sheets, but being able to work within the same file would be valuable.

Updated to include user input for Worksheet name. Output will append to existing file with the new worksheet. If the worksheet exists, there is a prompt for overwrite.

Issue: Add Corridor Entity as Breakline: Point outside surface error

This error can occur when multiple surfaces are part of the target surface definitions. The tool iterates through each surface to find the appropriate surface to tied the feature line end point too. Issue: Import Code Sets with Render Materials

Code set styles “Color by Link - Point and Link Codes - Rendered” and “Color by Top Materials - Point and Link Codes - Rendered” need AutoCAD render materials to view corridor link material areas in 3D. The rendered code sets and materials are not included in the design-start template.

Solution:

Added new command DOTImportCodeSetStyles and button located at WisDOT Design tab > Design panel > Corridor menu > Import Code Set Styles. Command imports all codes sets and associated render materials from “C:\WisDOT\Stnd\C3D2024\Components\Assemblies\CodeSets\CodeSets.dwg".

With the addition of more code set styles, a more descriptive naming convention is needed to convey what each code set displays.

Issue: Control General Corridor Link Color by Layer

Update P_Crdr_Link Layer and General Link style so the corridor link color for the General code sets can be updated using layer settings. Allows for a less intrusive corridor link look when designing and working with corridors while using the General code sets.

Solution:

  1. General (old CRDR Proposed) Link Style has been updated to display color “ByLayer”

    1. Used to be Color 30.
    2. Uses the layer P_Crdr_Link

  2. Modified Layer P_Crdr_Link lineweight to 0.005 (Was 0.016)

  3. Add Link Style “XS” hardcoded to color 30 and lineweight of 0.016 for use in XS Surface Check Code Set Style.

  4. Updated layers.dwg layer settings and layer states

New code sets available are very good for assembly layout and corridor section editor display

Issue: DOTRotateAnnoToViewport not rotating correctly

The tool does not rotate entities properly in certain situations. Also, the entities are not rotated for each assigned Annotation Scale.

Solution:

Entity positions for non-current Annotation scales are removed. Adapted tool to rotate correctly in all situations.

Issue: SSMDetectMode System Variable

Default is set to 1 which loads the Sheet Set Manager for Web by default when available.

Solution:

Set variable to 0 in WisDOT profile arg files. Any time the WisDOT profile is created or reset, the variable will be set to 0. However, users can change this at any time after. For internal WisDOT devices, the user preference for this setting will be saved and can be reloaded using the Restore User Setting command.

Contractor Data Packet has been renamed to Construction Data Packet to better reflect the wide-spread usage of this data throughout the construction stage of a project.

Issue: Design Surface Data Extractor cannot complete extraction when invalid link code is encountered

If a link code is encountered in a corridor surface definition, but that link code does not exist in the corridor, the Design Surface Data Extractor encounters an error and aborts the extraction process.

Solution:

The error derives from the DSDE attempting to compute stations and offsets of links that do not exist. The purpose of obtaining the stations and offsets was to compute the end points of the links so line objects could be built in the resulting file. The station value was also included in the link XData. The code has been modified to extract the link endpoints' XYZ values directly. The station value has been removed from the XData.

Issue: Design Surface Data Extractor (DSDE) Defects

In certain situations the DSDE will miss break lines that follow and interior pasted boundary (such as Daylight_Sub). Also, in certain situations the DSDE will break break lines into 2 segments cause an erroneous “LINE_NO_MATCH” flag.

Solution:

Prevent the DSDE from flagging break lines for later trimming if one end is on the design surface boundary and the other end is inside the boundary. Now it will only trim break line that span the outer boundary.

Moved the processing of identifying “LINE_NO_MATCH” break lines ahead of the process of deleting break lines that have been overridden by surface pastes. This was done to further filter the break lines flagged for deletion to only those that do not match the surface. It is assumed that if a line matches the design surface, it is valid and should not be deleted.

Issue: Structures – Check Drawing Type

The Check Drawing Type tool in the Structures tool Palette does not tell you the drawing type if nonstandard styles or annotation scales are in the drawing.

Updated the tool to always let you know which structures template was used to start the tool. It will then let you know if there are any nonstandard styles or annotation scales.
