Issue: Edit Code Set Styles in Excel

It is time-consuming to manage and edit code set styles in the Civil 3D interface.

Solution:

New command DOTEditCodeSetStyleInExcel added. Command provides an option to export a code set style to Excel for editing. The same command also provides an option to import the code set style from Excel.

Issue: Create button linked to a C3DKB page describing Drawing and Template Management Tools

There are multiple undocumented drawing and template management tools used by MDU. Some of these tools may be useful for others.

Solution:

Created a menu button on the Support panel in place of the “WisDOT C3DKB” button. The button includes the existing “WisDOT C3DKB” and a new “Drawing and Template Management Tools” button linking to C3DKB documentation for these custom commands.

Issue: Load XRef on Layer: Prevent paperspace XRefs

XRefs are sometimes accidentally added to paperspace.

Solution:

Prevent creating XReferences in paperspace and notify user. Also, added a command to locate any XReferences that are in Paperspace. DOTReportPaperspaceXRefs

Issue: Ribbon tool palette buttons: force open

Some of the ribbon buttons that activate tool palettes do not open the tool palette if it is closed.

Issue: Units and Zone Report: Include last save by version of AutoCAD

Provide a way to report the last version of AutoCAD that saved a DWG in a batch operation.

Solution:

Added the last save by version column in the Units and Zone Report.

Issue: SRVtoPNT/FLT in Civil 3D

SRV to PNT/FLT translator is currently in the WisDOT C3D Apps tool. Incorporating it into the Civil 3D UI will make it more accessible.

Solution:

Add command to Civil 3D to translate SRV files to PNT and FLT files. New command DOTConvertSRVToPNTFLT added and incorporated into the WisDOT Survey ribbon - Mapping panel.

Issue: TC Legend: Concrete Barrier

TC Legend (& TC Legen Expanded): the CONCRETE BARRIER TEMPORARY PRECAST symbol comes into the drawing as filled shapes when the relevant SDDs show it as hollow blocks

Issue: Additional Point of Intersection Labels

Variations of the “PI Station X Y Delta” label have been requested that include DA and DB. Also request to remove dragged state leader line for all these labels.

Issue: Draw tools accuracy

WisDOT Draw tools accuracy is diminished when determining tangency with very small arcs at large coordinates. This is due to the AutoCAD precision limits.

Issue: New curb type update CGBasic

A new curb and gutter - 3” Sloped Curb Types R & T has been added to the FDM SDDs.

Issue: Flip Alignment Labels

Users request ability to flip all alignment labels to opposite side of alignment.

Solution:

Issue: New Traffic Control Blocks

The “TC Flashing Arrow Board” block needs to be replaced, and work zone start/end blocks are needed.

Solution:

The “TC Flashing Arrow Board” block has been replaced with the “TC Connected Flashing Arrow Board” block. Added “WZ Start Location Marker” and “WZ End Location Marker” blocks. Updated the “TC Legend” and “TC Legend Expanded” blocks to reflect these changes.

Issue: Type III Barricade with Lights (& without Lights): Additional signage options

Additional signing options are often requested for these blocks.

Solution:

The “Type III Barricade with Signage and Lights” and “Type III Barricade with Signage without Lights” have been removed. Use the “Type III Barricade with or without Lights” block. Place the desired sign on top of the barricade block. then add a block mask to the sign block and move the sign description above the barricade. Most common signs included on Detours palette next to barricades.

Issue: WisDOT Imagery Rate Limit

The WisDOT Imagery - Capture Image command is putting excessive stress on the Image Server, causing service instability.

Solution:

Added a request rate limit to the Capture Image command. Users may notice a slight decrease in command speed, but an increase in image server stability.

Issue: Concrete Surface Drain and Asphaltic Flume blocks are not parametric

The existing flume and surface drain blocks only match a 36" curb and gutter. The blocks must be exploded and manually edited when placed along other types of curb and gutter in order to adjust the back of curb.

Solution:

Provide a parametric block for an Asphaltic Flume and a Concrete Surface Drain. Properties include adjustable gutter, curb head, flume/drain length and angle. The end condition can also be angled. Erosion control features are also available in a visibility state. Erosion control and flume/drain materials are on separate layers. The new blocks can be found on the 02-Drainage and Utilities palette - Storm Sewer tab

Issue: Roundabout fastest path arcs

It is a time consuming and iterative process to determine fastest paths for roundabouts.

Solution:

New command DOTDrawFastestPathArcs will locate and draw the minimum radius arcs along a given fastest path spline, including R1, R2, and R5. Command can be found in the WisDOT Design tab → Design panel → Misc Tools menu.

Issue: Design Surface Data Extractor: eWasErased error

Design Surface Data Extractor (DSDE) presents error “eWasErased” on some data sets when validating extraction file.

All new right-of-way and permanent easement monuments will be Type 2 (typically ¾” x 24” iron rebars), unless otherwise noted, and will be placed prior to the completion of the project.

Issue: Plat sheet template scales

Some confusion exists regarding the sheet template scales for plat. TPP detail sheet templates are setup as half size (ex. 11”x17”) in Civil 3D, but the assigned page setup scales the sheet to full size (ex. 22”x34”) when published. This is by design so sheet WisDOT sheet components are universal across disciplines. Plat title sheets and traditional plat details sheets are not currently setup this way.

Solution:

Set the Plat title sheet, TPP title sheet, and traditional plat detail sheets in the same manner as TPP detail sheets for consistency (draft at half size/publish at full size). Place a large note on all sheet layouts so users know how this is setup. Update Non-TPP tool palette to reflect updated layouts.

Issue: Network Part Refresh

Occasionally a Pipe Network Part may need to re-read the source definition from the Parts List. This may be necessary when changes are made to the Parts Catalog or Parts List.

Solution:

Created a new command DOTRefreshNetworkParts. Command swaps selected parts for the same part in the respective pipe network assigned source parts list. This action re-applies the parameters specified in the parts list, such as the part size properties, rule set, style, and bid items.

Issue: Earthwork Detail Report/Slope Stake Report UI enhancements

When there are multiple alignments and sample line groups within a small area. it can be difficult to select the correct start and end sample lines with so many to choose from.

Solution:

When selecting the begin sample line, the last sample line in the group is automatically set to the end sample line and that range of sample lines is highlighted in model space. The “select end sample line” button and “select start sample line” button can be used to change the selected sample line range, and the range will be highlighted.

Users’ request the ability to load a standard set of XReferences.

Solution:

Created new command DOTImportXRefsFromDWG that is found on the Manage panel > XRef Tools menu. User selects a source DWG and all of the dwg XReferences in the source DWG are replicated in the current DWG, including settings for location, name, attach/overlay, layer, and absolute/relative path.

Issue: Culvert Report: Add note regarding Culvert Pipe Class __ lengths

The bid items for “Culvert Pipe Class __” allows the contractor to provide the pipe material of their choice. Those items in the WisDOT parts lists are reinforced concrete. Since the pipe length for reinforce concrete pipe is shorter than other material types (due to the apron endwall length), a note is needed to inform the contractor that the pipe lengths specified are for reinforced concrete.

Solution:

Add note to culvert pipe table when “Culvert Pipe Class __” items are used.

Issue: AEW Riprap

Need an efficient way to add rip rap symbology to culvert outlet AEWs and quantify.

Solution:

Created a new structure label (Riprap) that matches the plan symbology for riprap. Create a new structure table style for quantifying the riprap (Riprap). These styles utilize a new part parameter to determine the proper riprap size. If the riprap label is not sized correctly in legacy drawings, the DOTRefreshNetworkParts command may be used to update the legacy AEW parts.

Issue: Publish Collections Manager: AcCoreConsole crash

Publishing using Publish Collections Manger or a Publish Collection BAT file results in AcCoreConsole.exe crash because AcCoreConsole.exe does not load the required modules at startup. This typically occurs on devices with Civil 3D and AutoCAD installed side by side.

Solution:

To force load the modules, a '/product C3D' switch was added to the AcCoreConsole startup. Publish collections can be updated by opening/saving them in the Publish Collections Manger.

Issue: Publish Collections Manager: Unable to Publish DSD files with same name

If a Publish Collection contains multiple DSD files with the same name, only the first one will be processed.

Solution:

The Publish Collections Manager creates temporary SCR files in the %Temp% directory with the same name as the DSD file. When multiple DSD files are named the same, there is a name conflict for the temporary SCR files. The BatchPublish.dll has been revised to create unique SCR names in the %Temp% directory. Users should update existing Publish Collections by replacing the BatchPublish.dll with the updated one. This can be done manually, or by opening the Publish Collections Manager. Opening the Publish Collections Manger automatically updates the BatchPublish.dll in all Publish Collections.

When the corridor entity is at the edge of a surface, a ‘Point not on Entity’ error is sometimes presented.

Some users are applying this tool to corridor surfaces instead of refinement surfaces.

Add a tolerance to account for entities near the edge of a surface. For example, if a link end is at the edge of the surface, use the nearest TIN point instead of the link end point.

Prevent using this tool on corridor surfaces.

The General > Label Style > Line > Typ Sec Slope Percent needs work. The arrow doesn’t point downhill. The arrow goes through the text. Only works on the segment option.

The values and expressions have been updated for the Typ Sec Slope Percent label and the name has been changed to Slope Percent. Issue: Move Pipe End enhancement

If an apron endwall is connected to a pipe, it is disconnected when using the Move Pipe End command on that end of the pipe. If the opposite side of the pipe has an apron end wall, its rotation is no longer correct when using the Move Pipe End command to move the pipe horizonally.

Solution:

Enhance the Move Pipe End command to detect if Inlet/Outlet structures are connected to the pipe. If they are, assure they are connected and rotated correctly after moving the pipe end.

Issue: Process to add point codes to code set style

Best practice is to include unique point codes for various locations in a corridor assembly. Since every project is different unique codes for all possible scenarios cannot be prepackaged.

Solution:

WisDOT provides code set styles with a base/template list of point codes. These codes can be used and appended with a suffix to create unique point codes when building assemblies. A new command, DOTAddPointCodesToCodeSet, is provided to add the unique point codes to the currently assigned code set style or create a new code set style based on the current one. The style assignments from the base code are assigned to the newly add unique codes. Command also found on WiDOT Design tab ->Design panel → Corridor menu.

WisDOT does not have a match line label style that is usable at the intersection of the alignment and match line. Also, need more options for match line labeling.

Solution:

Added new match line label styles for both left and right:

Station-Center:Intended for placing a match line label at or near the center of the match line which requires match line label location of "Alignment Intersection" or "Middle."

Station (No Plot):DOES NOT PLOT - Intended for placing a match line label at the start/end of the match line on the right/left side of the match line, which requires match line label location of “Start” or "End."

Set default match line label [Left and Right] in both design-start.dwt and plat-start.dwt to Station (No Plot).

Users request a concrete collar part be added to the parts catalog, Storm Sewer part list and Culverts parts list so they can be documented for quantity take off.

Solution:

Concrete collar part added to catalog, Storm Sewer Parts list, and Culverts Parts list. Collar height and width will automatically size for circular pipe. For elliptical and arch pipes, collar automatically sizes for height. Use the structure width parameter to add additional width as needed.

Current Dimstyle names are based on specific uses instead of denoting the generic dimension style.

Solution:

Issue: C3D 2024 does not automatically update View Frame template source

When sheet drawings are opened in C3D 2024 that were previously in an earlier version of C3D (2020 & 2022), the view frame template source is not updated to the C3D 2024 version. If the template from the previous version of C3D is not available, and error occurs.

Solution:

Rename sheet template directory to: C:\WisDOT\Stnd\C3D2024\Templates\Plan Production

Changed Plan(s) Only default template path to C:\WisDOT\Stnd\C3D2024\Templates\Plan Production\05-PN-DUAL-PLN-wdot.dwt. Changed Profiles(s) Only default template path toC:\WisDOT\Stnd\C3D2024\Templates\Plan Production\05-PN-DUAL-PROF-wdot.dwt.

Civil 3D 2024 will then find and automatically migrate all of the view frame template source paths as expected.

Issue: Inconsistent Block Scale

Some blocks are set to a default scale that is inconsistent to similar blocks on other palettes. Other blocks are not scaled consistently and have no notice to drafters.

Solution

Set all blocks to insert at a default scale of 1.0
Removed auto-explode on bar bend diagrams to allow easier scaling
Added attributes and visibility states to all BAR_BEND blocks to allow common details to be edited without exploding the block. This allows the blocks to be used with different scales.
Fixed the scale on BATTER_ARROW, CULV_HEADER, HAUNCH, SLAB_SECTION, SLAB_SECTION_NOTCH, STRUCT_APPROACH, and WALL_SECTION_SLAB

Issue: Update reference template paths

Need a way to update the reference template paths when changing Civil 3D versions.

Solution:

There is no way to access the reference templates paths using the Civil 3D API. However, mouse actions and keystrokes can be simulated using the Window UI Automation API. A reference template find/replace/remove function has been added to the Sync Project Files tool to update reference template paths for the given list of drawings.

Issue: WisDOT Imagery

Need a way to give users a simple mechanism to access the latest aerial imagery available.

Solution:

New contextual ribbon tab “WisDOT Imagery” is visible when a coordinate system is assigned to the dwg. The tab contains options to display topographic or county-specific aerial imagery, depending on the assigned coordinate system. Options to stylize the imagery with brightness, contrast, opacity, and color controls are provided. Imagery can be captured to a reference local image file of a specific area.

Issue: Remove Orphaned Image Files

With the introduction of “WisDOT Imagery”, it is more likely that projects could accumulate many unreferenced image files. A tool is needed to scan project directories to find any image files that are not being referenced into project dwg file.

Solution:

New command DOTRemoveOrphanedImages prompts user to select a project directory to scan. The tool looks for all image files (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, TIF, SID) in the selected directory and subdirectories. Then it opens each dwg database in the same directories and checks if any of the found images have been referenced. It first checks if images were referenced as an “XRef” (MAPIINSERT). Then it determines if there are any FDO Raster connections. Drawings with FDO Raster connections are opened at the end to determine if those connections are to any of the found image files.

Once a list of orphaned images is developed, the user is presented with a list of the images. The user can select which images to delete from the project directory.

The command is located in the Manage panel - Project menu.

Issue: Model Display Options

Users have different color preferences when viewing certain entities in Model space. However, these entities need to plot according to WisDOT standards. Need a way to override the color display of the certain entities (Profile View grid, Section View grid, Surface contours) in Model space while keeping the colors set to the WisDOT standards for paper space (plotting). Users should not be modifying the CTB according to their personal preferences because the CTB controls plotting and the CTB needs to be the same on all devices.

Solution:

The Model Display Options tool has been added to the Manage panel on each WisDOT ribbon tab. Users can use this to set their Model Space color preferences for Profile View grids, Section View Grids, and Surface Contours. These preferences can be set globally across of these object types, or users can set use the provided layer filter option to specify which entities should be affected.

Issue: Add Apply Layer State tool to WisDOT ribbon

The Apply Layer States tool is accessible via the Layer Colors Manager and command line. However, it would be more convenient if this tool was available on the WisDOT ribbon tabs.

Issue: Point Station Offset to UDP not updating points located at curve ends

C3D API defect related to tolerances. In some cases, if an alignment curve type is “fixed” there may be an extremely small tangency violation at the curve end that is not reported in the alignment geometry table. However, the violation is still detectable by the API and the station/offset location is reported as “out of range”. The tool therefore does not compute the sta/os at that location.

Solution:

Compute the station/offset whenever possible regardless an “out of range” return from the API. If truly out of range (beyond alignment ends), the UDP for alignment description will indicate “OutOfRange”.

Issue: Modify length, area, and 3d area reports to be able to send multiple selections to the same xlsx file

Users requested that these tools be modified to allow for multiple selection sets to be sent to the same xlsx file. They can go to different sheets, but being able to work within the same file would be valuable.

Solution:

Updated to include user input for Worksheet name. Output will append to existing file with the new worksheet. If the worksheet exists, there is a prompt for overwrite.

_No Markers is often used by designers. Sometimes more often than ALI Proposed. But the name of _No Markers has made discovery of this style difficult. Renaming it to ALI Proposed (No Markers) will make it more discoverable and bring it in line with the naming of the existing styles.

Issue: Update Create Corridor Surfaces tool to account for custom point codes

It is advantageous to create custom point codes to have better success with corridor feature line continuity. The accompanying csv file does not include wildcards for the feature line codes.

Issue: Add Corridor Entity as Breakline: Point outside surface error

This error can occur when multiple surfaces are part of the target surface definitions. The tool iterates through each surface to find the appropriate surface to tied the feature line end point too. If it encounters a surface in the definition that is not in the area of the feature line, the error occurs.

- Each corridor link has a unique color based on the subassembly link codes and the Material Area Fill Style in the code set style. The subassembly shapes are also assigned unique colors for display in section views.

- Same as "Color by Link - Point and Link Codes". Render materials are included in this code set style for 3D viewing.
Color by Top Materials - Point and Link Codes
- The top of roadway materials are based on the Link - Material Area Fill Styles in the code set style. Examples materials: concrete pavement, asphalt pavement, base aggregate, grass. This code set is not to be used to determine material quantities.

Issue: Import Code Sets with Render Materials

Code set styles “Color by Link - Point and Link Codes - Rendered” and “Color by Top Materials - Point and Link Codes - Rendered” need AutoCAD render materials to view corridor link material areas in 3D. The rendered code sets and materials are not included in the design-start template.

Solution:

Update P_Crdr_Link Layer and General Link style so the corridor link color for the General code sets can be updated using layer settings. Allows for a less intrusive corridor link look when designing and working with corridors while using the General code sets.

Issue: SSMDetectMode System Variable

Default is set to 1 which loads the Sheet Set Manager for Web by default when available.

Solution:

Set variable to 0 in WisDOT profile arg files. Any time the WisDOT profile is created or reset, the variable will be set to 0. However, users can change this at any time after. For internal WisDOT devices, the user preference for this setting will be saved and can be reloaded using the Restore User Setting command.

Issue: Design Surface Data Extractor cannot complete extraction when invalid link code is encountered

If a link code is encountered in a corridor surface definition, but that link code does not exist in the corridor, the Design Surface Data Extractor encounters an error and aborts the extraction process.

Solution:

The error derives from the DSDE attempting to compute stations and offsets of links that do not exist. The purpose of obtaining the stations and offsets was to compute the end points of the links so line objects could be built in the resulting file. The station value was also included in the link XData. The code has been modified to extract the link endpoints' XYZ values directly. The station value has been removed from the XData.

Issue: Design Surface Data Extractor (DSDE) Defects

In certain situations the DSDE will miss break lines that follow and interior pasted boundary (such as Daylight_Sub). Also, in certain situations the DSDE will break break lines into 2 segments cause an erroneous “LINE_NO_MATCH” flag.

Solution:

Prevent the DSDE from flagging break lines for later trimming if one end is on the design surface boundary and the other end is inside the boundary. Now it will only trim break line that span the outer boundary.

Moved the processing of identifying “LINE_NO_MATCH” break lines ahead of the process of deleting break lines that have been overridden by surface pastes. This was done to further filter the break lines flagged for deletion to only those that do not match the surface. It is assumed that if a line matches the design surface, it is valid and should not be deleted.

Issue: Structures – Check Drawing Type

The Check Drawing Type tool in the Structures tool Palette does not tell you the drawing type if nonstandard styles or annotation scales are in the drawing.

Solution:

Updated the tool to always let you know which structures template was used to start the tool. It will then let you know if there are any nonstandard styles or annotation scales.

Solution:

Created a sheet set template. Updated sheet layout templates to work with the sheet set. Added list of drawings table style to drawing template.
