Update WisDOT Civil 3D system tray application (WisDOT only)
Last updated: 2026-10-14
Overview
The Update WisDOT Civil 3D system tray application is a continuously running application that monitors for available WisDOT Civil 3D updates. When an update is detected, the application notifies the user of the update with an option to install the update. The Update WisDOT Civil 3D application is launched at Windows login via the Task Scheduler. It checks for an available update when launched and then every 4 hours. Update WisDOT Civil 3D is version specific, so there is a separate application for each version of Civil 3D. The application is also used to perform the initial setup and configuration of Civil 3D.

- Run Update or Run Update (Beta): Installs the WisDOT Civil 3D configuration. Civil 3D will be initialized if it has not been already (new install or following a reset). Any applicable Group Policies will be applied (required in-office or VPN connection). The following logic is used to determine where to find the configuration zip.
- Priority 1: Check the update date.
- The latest update date is queried from the web server. This is compared with the latest update date located in %AppData%\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Wi25.1.bundle\Res\deploywiconfig.ini on the user's device.
- If the update date on the web server is more recent that what is on the device, the configuration zip is downloaded from the web server to C:\WisDOT\Downloads\C3D 20XX and installed.
- Priority 2: Check the configuration zip date.
- If there is a configuration zip already located C:\WisDOT\Downloads\C3D 20XX, that configuration zip file create date is compared to the file creation date of the configuration zip located on the web server.
- If the local zip file date is equal to or more recent than the web server zip date, the local configuration zip is installed or reinstalled.
- If the web server zip file date is more recent than the local zip date, the web server configuration zip is downloaded and installed.
- Priority 1: Check the update date.
- Settings
- Reset Profile(s) on Update: When checked, all the wisdot and wisdotBOS profiles are cleared from the device during the update.
- Use High Performance GPU: When checked, configures Civil 3D to use the high-performance graphics card (GPU) on systems with dual video (integrated and discrete graphics).
- Force Icon Visible: When checked, forces the Update WisDOT Civil 3D tray icon to be visible at all time (not in the hidden menu). Takes effect at startup.
- Use Beta: When checked, the Update WisDOT Civil 3D application is directed to check for and utilize the web server location for beta updates.
- Help
- What's new: Opens the C3DKB what's new page. If the Use Beta setting is enabled, this opens the beta what's new page.
- Reset Civil 3D: Resets Civil 3D to its initial installation state, removes the WisDOT configuration, and WisDOT profiles. Then, Civil 3D is reinitialized and the WisDOT configuration is reinstalled. Since this process also applies any applicable Group Policies, an in-office or VPN connection is required.
- Version: Displays the currently installed version of the Update WisDOT Civil 3D application. The first number indicates the version of Civil 3D. Clicking on this menu item will copy the version to the clipboard so it can be shared with support.
-
Exit: Closes the Update WisDOT Civil 3D application.
