Description
Single-faced, right or left facing barrier with optional gutter section.
Behavior
The gutter and barrier links are inserted based on the Input parameters and Dimension A – Dimension G. All dimensions must be positive, non-zero values. The gutter slope is applied in a downward direction to a distance equal to Gutter Width / 2 and then applied in an upward direction an equal distance.
If a non-zero Depth to Subgrade is given, the subgrade surface is inserted to the back of the barrier, and continues for the Subgrade width to subgrade shoulder point. From subgrade shoulder point, subgrade extends vertically to attachment point elevation. Top of Base1 link extends horizontally from subgrade link to the back of barrier at the attachment point elevation. Other Base course links and the subgrade follow the superelevation slope as defined in Subgrade SE Method and Fixed Subgrade Slope.
The subgrade slope either from Fixed Subgrade Slope or alignment superelvation will be applied according to Side parameter, that is, if subgrade slope is 2%, Side is set to Right, you will see left side base/subbase lower than right side.
If Side is set to Left and subgrade slope is 2%, you will see left side base/subbase higher than right side.
The slope of the subgrade surface can be specified by setting a parameter reference to use the Subgrade slope of an adjacent lane. All base course surfaces can also be set to use the depths of base course surfaces of adjacent lanes by setting a parameter reference as well.
Attachment & layout mode operation
The attachment point is at the flange point of the gutter.
In layout mode the subassembly displays the barrier components based on the Input parameters given. The subgrade and other base course layers are inserted at a slope of -2%.
Input parameters
Info: All dimensions are in feet unless otherwise noted. All slopes are in run-over-rise form (for example 4:1) unless indicated as a percent slope with a "%" sign.
Parameter | Description | Type | Default |
---|---|---|---|
Side | Indicates which side the subassembly is inserted towards | Left/Right | Right |
Footing Depth | Specifies the depth of the footing for the barrier. | Numeric | 0.0 ft. |
Gutter Width | Width of the Gutter. If width is set to 0.0, no gutter is inserted. | Numeric | 2.0 ft. |
Gutter Slope | Specifies slope of the gutter portion inserted before the barrier. | Slope | 12.5% |
Base Depth | Distance to the bottom of the first base course layer. This measurement is taken from the flange point. If there is no base course layer, a zero depth should be used | Numeric | 0.0 ft. |
Subbase Depth | Distance to the bottom of the second base course layer. This measurement is taken from the flange point. If there is no second base course layer, a zero depth should be used. | Numeric | 0.0 ft. |
Depth to Subgrade | Depth to top of the subgrade surface. Measured from the flange point down. Use zero if no subbase. | Numeric, positive | 2.0 ft. |
Subgrade Width | Distance the subgrade is extended beyond the back-of-curb. Use zero to terminate the subbase at the back-of-curb. | Numeric, non-negative | 2.0 ft. |
Subgrade SE Method |
Selects whether to use the superelevation slope for the subgrade surface or to set a numeric % slope value. if Use Inside Lane SE is set, and Side parameter is left, this Subassembly will use left side superelevation defined in baseline. If Side parameter is set to Right, the right side SE will be used. |
Selection List: a.) Use Inside Lane SE, b.) Use Outside Lane SE, c.) Fixed Slope, d) Use the Opposite Side Outside Lane SE Multiplied by -1.0, e.) Use the Opposite Side Inside Lane SE Multiplied by -1.0 |
Fixed Slope |
Fixed Subgrade Slope |
Default cross slope of the subgrade surface left of the baseline. This value is used if superelevation slope is not used, or is not specified for the baseline alignment. User also has the option to set a parameter reference and use the Subgrade Slope of an adjacent lane to define the subgrade slopes of the shoulder |
