Welcome to WisDOT Civil 3D Futures on Trello. WisDOT Civil 3D Futures is a place to interact with the Methods Development team and other WisDOT Civil 3D configuration users. You can use this platform to do thing like:

  • Report defects
  • Request new macros or reports
  • Request new subassemblies
  • Request changes to the templates
  • Preview new tools that WisDOT is developing
  • Or anything else related to the WisDOT Civil 3D customizations

 

WisDOT Civil 3D Futures intended focus is on making the WisDOT Civil 3D configurations as useful as possible. WisDOT Civil 3D Futures is not intended as a support or training resource. To find WisDOT Civil 3D Futures, go to https://trello.com/wisdotcivil3dfutures. We recommend that you add this as one of your favorites for easy access. A link is also provided on each of the WisDOT ribbons inside of Civil 3D. If you are not already a Trello user, click "Sign-up" to create a free account.

On WisDOT Civil 3D Futures, you'll find 3 boards:

  • Submit Ideas
  • Ideas Status
  • Tech Preview

 

We recommend that you select the star on each board for easy access later. We also recommend that you click the Boards button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and choose "always keep this menu open". This makes it easier to quickly jump from board to board.

Once you are in a board, you can always get back to the WisDOT Civil 3D Future home page by clicking on the "WisDOT Civil 3D Futures" button and selecting "View Team Page". You can use a favorite if you created one.

By default, all 3 boards will be read-only. To gain additional access for commenting and posting ideas, you must request team membership by e-mailing support.cae@dot.wi.gov. Once you are part of the WisDOT Civil 3D Futures team, you will be able to post ideas on the "Submit Ideas" board. You will also be able to add comments to the "Ideas Status" and "Tech Preview" boards.

This board it likely where you will spend most of your time. The "Submit Ideas" board is a completely open area for team members to share ideas, make requests, and comment on other ideas and requests. To get started in the "Submit Ideas" board, you first need to join the board. Once you have been invited to the WisDOT Civil 3D Futures team, you will see a "Join Board" button at the top of the board. Click that button to enjoy full access to the "Submit Ideas" board.

In the "Submit Ideas" board, you will see several lists. These lists represent various topics related to the WisDOT Civil 3D customizations. To add your idea, choose the list that most represents the topic.

  1. Select "Add another card".
  2. Type the name of the idea so it is recognizable to others. Hit Enter
  3. Click on the new card to see the details
  4. Enter a detailed description of the idea and click Save.
  5. Optional but recommended: Click Members and add yourself as a card member. This step is optional, but it will help you find where all your cards are later.
  6. Optional but recommended: Click the Labels button and choose which version of Civil 3D this applies to. If you don't do this, a MDU team member will likely be asking you which version later.
  7. Optional: If the request is time sensitive, you can place a due date on the card. Do this by clicking the "Due Date" button. This in no way guarantees that a request will be completed by that date, but it will give MDU a sense of the urgency.
  8. If you have a file to attach, such as an image, document, dwg, etc, click the attachment button. Here you can attach a file directly using the "computer" option. The file size is limited to 10 MB. If you have a larger file size, you can use one of the other cloud options listed.
  9. When you are done filling out the card, click the "X" in the upper right-hand corner.

We also encourage you to look through the other cards on the "Submit Ideas" board. You can open any card and add comments. You can also vote for a card by clicking the "vote" button. Cards with more votes have a better chance of getting a higher priority. If you want to keep tabs on a card, click the "Watch" button to receive notifications.

The Idea Status board is used by MDU to communicate whether an idea or request is being adopted. The board contains 4 lists, Accepted (in queue), Denied, In Development, and Deployed. WisDOT Civil 3D Futures team members can add comments to the cards on this board. All other access is restricted.

Ideas in

  • "Accepted (in queue)" are marked for adoption and MDU will soon begin work on it.
  • "Denied" will not be adopted and no further action is planned. MDU will comment on these ideas to explain why.
  • "In Development" are currently being worked on.
  • "Deployed" are included in the most recent release of the WisDOT Civil 3D configurations.

Permissions for this board are limited. You cannot add cards or move cards, but you still can comment on cards and watch them.
