DWG - Replace Blocks

Overview

Replace blocks is a command to quickly replace one or multiple blocks in a drawing with another block in that same drawing. This tool allows the user to manually select block references to replace while in the command, or create a selection set in advance.

Using tool

The tool can also be loaded from the command line: DOTREPLACEBLOCKS.

Manually select blocks

  1. WisDOT Tab > Manage Panel > DWG > Replace Blocks
  2. Select block references to replace:
    1. Select the blocks to be replaced
    2. Single or multiple blocks can be selected
  3. Replace Blocks dialog
    1. From the block list, select the block to use
    2. OK

Preselect blocks

  1. In model space, select all blocks to be replaced
    1. Manually select
    2. Utilize right-click > Select Similar
  2. WisDOT Tab > Manage Panel > DWG > Replace Blocks
  3. Replace Blocks dialog
    1. From the block list, select the block to use
    2. OK

Use quick-select to preselect blocks

  1. In model space, right-click > Quick Select
    1. Object type: Block reference
    2. Properties: Select the property to select from (ie: Name)
    3. Operator: Select the operator to select from (ie: * Wildcard match)
    4. Value: Select/enter the desired value (ie: AC_*)
    5. OK
  2. WisDOT Tab > Manage Panel > DWG > Replace Blocks
  3. Replace Blocks dialog
    1. From the block list, select the block to use
    2. OK
