Lines - Floating Line

Overview

Creates a Line that is tangent to a selected Arc Circle, Polyline curve, or Alignment curve entity. The Line is displayed dynamically with the cursor position until the final end point is selected.

Usage

WisDOT Design tab> Draw panel > Lines dropdown > Floating Line

The tool can also be accessed from the command line: DOTDRAWFLOATINGLINE.

  1. Select arc, circle, polyline curve, or alignment curve: Select an arc, circle, polyline curve subentity, or alignment curve subentity to draw a line tangent from.
  2. Select end point [Reverse TangentTo PerpendicularTo]: Click the desired end point for the line or:
    1. Reverse: Select this option to reverse the direction of the line prior to clicking on the desired end point.
    2. TangentTo: Select this option to set the end point tangent to another Arc or Circle.
      1. Select second arc, circle, polyline curve, or alignment curve: Select the second arc, circle, polyline curve subentity, or alignment curve subentity.
      2. Select desired tangent: All possible tangent lines will be displayed. Select the line that is desired.
    3. PerpendicularTo: Select this option to set the end point perpendicular to another Arc, Circle, Line, Polyline subentity, or Alignment subentity.
      1. Select second line, arc, circle, polyline, or alignment: Select the second line, arc, circle, polyline subentity, or alignment subentity.
      2. Select desired line: All possible lines will be displayed. Select the line that is desired.
