QTO - Areas Report

Overview

This report will create an Excel spreadsheet that includes station range and 2D area of selected entities. The report can be used to report areas for Polylines, 3D Polylines, Feature Lines, Parcels, Circles, Ellipses, Splines, Alignments, and Catchments. Objects that are not closed will be indicated in the report output.

Usage

WisDOT Design tab > Analyze panel > QTO dropdown > Areas Report

The tool can also be accessed from the command line: DOTREPORTAREAS.

  1. The Areas Report dialog includes several options for selecting entities. Use the Select Objects button to select individual objects in model space. Check the All objects on selected layers box to selected all objects that are on the same layer as the objects that were individually selected.
  2. Alternatively, the ByLayer box can be check to select objects using a layer filter. Type the layers (comma separated) in to the provided text box to select all objects on those layers. Wildcards may be used. (Example: E_Area*, P_Area*)
  3. To verify the objects that will be included in the report, Preview. This will highlight all the selected objects. Enter or Esc to return to the Areas Report dialog.
  4. A running total area and object count is displayed on the interface. Clicking on the displayed total area will copy the value to the clipboard for use in other applications.
  5. To export a report to Excel, select the reference alignment to be used to compute the area station ranges.
  6. Set the Station Precision and Area Precision values. The running total displayed on the interface reports to the selected Area Precision value.
  7. Select the output units for area (SY or SF). The running total displayed on the interface honors the selected units.
  8. To label the areas in model space with MText, Add Labels . The MText labels will be placed at the centroid of each object and on the current layer. These labels are not dynamic.
  9. Provide a name for the Excel worksheet.
  10. Click the folder icon to open the Save File As.. dialog. If the workbook already exists, it will be appended with the specified worksheet.
  11. Create Report
