Last updated: 2021-06-29

Overview

This macro will give a sum of the total area of one or more selected polylines and also give the individual perimeter or length of selected polylines.

Using Area of Closed Polylines

WisDOT Design tab > Analyze panel > Inquiry dropdown > 2D Area of Closed Polylines

The Area of Closed Polylines macro can also be accessed from the command line: PAL.

Using the Macro on a Single Polyline

  1. Select one polyline > Enter
  2. The area and perimeter and the sum total area of the selected polyline is echoed in the command line.

Using the Macro on Multiple Polylines

  1. Select multiple polylines > Enter
  2. The individual area and individual perimeter or length of each selected polyline and the sum total area of all selected polylines is echoed in the command line.

Tip: The macro can be used on open polylines. The macro will calculate the shortest length required to close the polyline and report an area as if it were closed, however since there is no closing line segment, only the actual length of the polyline will be reported instead of the full perimeter.
