Import survey data

Creating base data file from points

Open and save new file

1. Civil 3D Start screen > Start Drawing: Templates dropdown
   1. Scroll and select plat-start.dwt
2. Application menu > Save As
   1. Save Drawing As dialog box
      1. Save in: Local drive:\WisDOT\Design\c3d\12345678\BaseData\Survey
      2. File name: Section Information.dwg

Insert survey points

Tip: Civil 3D can import file types; such as, .csv, .txt, .rtf, among others.

3. Ribbon > Insert tab > Import panel > select Points from File
   1. Import Points dialog box
      1. Selected Files: select Add files icon
         1. Select Source File dialog box
            1. Change File of type: All Files
            2. Look in: ...12345678\BaseData\Survey
            3. Select file StCr Co Section Corners.csv (Excel file)
            4. Open
      2. Specify point file format:
         1. Select Toggle filtering icon
         2. Scroll and select PNEZD (comma defined)
      3. Preview: Will display a sample based on format selections above.
      4. Check box Add Points to Point Group.
      5. Next to Point Group dropdown, select Create Group icon
         1. Point File Formats - Create Group dialog box
            1. Type StCr Co Section Corners
            2. OK
         2. Dropdown displays new Point Group name
      6. No Advanced options

      7. OK

   2. Prompt: Duplicate Point Number dialog box
      1. Duplicate point number resolution
         1. Resolution dropdown > select Overwrite
      2. OK
   3. If points don't display, perform Zoom Extents (double-click mouse wheel or Z+Enter E+Enter)
   4. Save file before continuing (Qsave, quick access bar and save)
   5. Use the Line Creation command to create section lines from the section corner points. (done off camera)
   6. Once finished, save file
      1. Application menu > Save As
         1. Save Drawing As dialog box
            1. Save in: Local drive:\WisDOT\Design\c3d\12345678\RW\DWG

            2. File name: 81100024-ERW-SecLines
